While a senior at Coppell High School and already signed up for the United States Army, Adam wrote a poem for a class assignment. While the subject matter shows his love of the Army, the theme is prophetic:

Adam was recognized as an outstanding soldier, as indicated in the letters to the family from his squad leader, company commander, and other ranking officers. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal. He was awarded a number of medals and commendations. At his funeral Mass, the family was presented with Adam's Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
On May 24, 2006, Adam was awarded the Purple Heart medal during a bedside ceremony while in the hospital at the Landstuhl Army Medical Center near Frankfurt, Germany. His family was at his side.

On June 2, 2006, Adam was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star medal during his funeral Mass at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas. This medal was presented by Brigadier General Campbell, who attended and spoke at Adam's services.
